In your body an enzyme called 5 alpha reductase causes the conversion of the male hormone testosterone into dihydrotestosterone. This dihydrotestosterone causes hair to fall out in certain areas. The typical male pattern balding areas receding from the sides top and vertex of the scalp. If you are losing hair from all over the scalp then the problem is different and may not respond to treatments for male pattern baldness. Nutrition and stress can affect hair loss. Permanent rim hair between the ears is not sensitive to dihydrotestosterone. When transplanted this hair will not fall out.
