Hair transplant can be a great way to regain lost hair, as well as your confidence, helping you look and feel better about your appearance.
If you’re deciding whether to go ahead with hair transplant surgery or hair growth treatment, you may be wondering what to expect after your transplant. We’ve put together some information about the healing days immediately after your transplant, as well as further down the track.
Hair transplant surgery is a very delicate procedure. It’s important that you follow the instructions and advice of your surgeon carefully in the days and weeks after your surgery. This will ensure your transplants heal properly, as well as making sure you get the best results from your transplant.
Immediately after your hair transplant
After your hair transplant surgery, your surgeon may have you wear a bandage on the donor site overnight.
There is little or no discomfort after surgery. Some crusting or scabbing maybe obvious in the recipient area. Your scalp may look pink; somewhat like a sunburn, for a week or so.
In case of discomfort, the surgeon will provide you with medication overnight. You will also receive a saline/ATP mixture spray on the grafted area to encourage growth– this is to be used for 3 days after your transplant.
Scabs fall off after 5 to 10 days. You might notice some hair falls off with these scabs. This is entirely normal part of your healing process.
Avoid drinking alcohol as it thins the blood, affecting your healing.
In the weeks following your hair transplant
Sutures are removed after 2 weeks, giving your surgeon the opportunity to take a look at your healing process.
Two to three weeks after surgery, some of the transplanted hairs fall out. This is a normal part of the hair transplant process.
You will start to notice new growth within a few months.
A few months after a hair transplant procedure
Your surgeon will schedule a follow-up appointment 6 months after your procedure, to continue to monitor your progress and make sure you are happy with your transplant.
Most people see 60% growth in 6 to 9 months. Hair growth is dependent on a protein rich diet. Help Hair™ Whey Protein Concentrate is available to assist. New hair can regrow in 4 months. A full and permanent result may take 12 months.
Remember, transplanted hair continues to grow for the rest of your life, offering you the only permanent solution to hair loss.
